Douay-Rheims><Vulgate><Knox Bible
1
Thou shalt make also an altar of setim wood, which shall be five cubits long and as many broad, that is, foursquare, and three cubits high.
1
1
Make an altar, too, of acacia wood, with a surface five cubits square, and a height of three cubits.
2
And there shall be horns at the four corners of the same: and thou shalt cover it with brass.
2
2
It must have horns at the corners, all of a piece with it, and it must be plated with bronze.
3
And thou shalt make for the uses thereof pans to receive the ashes, and tongs and fleshhooks, and firepans: all its vessels thou shalt make of brass.
3
3
Provide it with ash-pans, tongs, forks, and braziers, making all its appurtenances of bronze;
4
And a grate of brass in manner of a net: at the four corners of which shall be four rings of brass,
4
Craticulamque in modum retis æneam: per cujus quatuor angulos erunt quatuor annuli ænei.
4
and make a bronze grating, of network, with bronze rings at its four corners,
5
Which thou shalt put under the hearth of the altar: and the grate shall be even to the midst of the altar.
5
Quos pones subter arulam altaris: eritque craticula usque ad altaris medium.
5
sunk in the hearth of the altar; this grating must reach to half the altar’s height.
6
Thou shalt make also two bars for the altar of setim wood, which thou shalt cover with plates of brass:
6
6
Then make two poles of acacia wood, plated with bronze,
7
And thou shalt draw them through rings, and they shall be on both sides of the altar to carry it.
7
7
which can be put through the rings on either side of the altar, so as to carry it.
8
Thou shalt not make it solid, but empty and hollow in the inside, as it was shewn thee in the mount.
8
8
The altar is not to be made solid, but to have a hollow space within, after the manner shewn thee on the mountain.
9
Thou shalt make also the court of the tabernacle, in the south side whereof southward there shall be hangings of fine twisted linen of a hundred cubits long for one side.
9
Facies et atrium tabernaculi, in cujus australi plaga contra meridiem erunt tentoria de bysso retorta: centum cubitos unum latus tenebit in longitudine.
9
Make a court, too, round the tabernacle. At the south side of this, towards the mid-day sun, there will be hangings made of twisted linen thread, a hundred cubits long on this side,
10
And twenty pillars with as many sockets of brass, the heads of which with their engraving shall be of silver.
10
10
and twenty posts, each with its socket made of bronze, its engraved capital of silver.
11
In like manner also on the north side there shall be hangings of a hundred cubits long, twenty pillars, and as many sockets of brass, and their heads with their engraving of silver.
11
11
So, too, on the north side, hangings a hundred feet long, twenty posts with bronze sockets and engraved silver capitals.
12
But in the breadth of the court, that looketh to the west, there shall be hangings of fifty cubits, and ten pillars, and as many sockets.
12
12
On the short side, westwards, the line of hangings will be only fifty cubits long, and there will be only ten posts in ten sockets.
13
In that breadth also of the court, which looketh to the east, there shall be fifty cubits.
13
In ea quoque atrii latitudine, quæ respicit ad orientem, quinquaginta cubiti erunt.
13
The side which looks eastward will also be fifty cubits in length;
14
In which there shall be for one side hangings of fifteen cubits, and three pillars and as many sockets.
14
In quibus quindecim cubitorum tentoria lateri uno deputabuntur, columnæque tres et bases totidem:
14
of these, fifteen at one end will be protected by a line of hangings fifteen cubits long, with three posts and as many sockets,
15
And in the other side there shall be hangings of fifteen cubits, with three pillars and as many sockets.
15
et in latere altero erunt tentoria cubitos obtinentia quindecim, columnæ tres, et bases totidem.
15
and there will be fifteen cubits’ length of hangings, with three posts and as many sockets, at the other end too;
16
And in the entrance of the court there shall be made a hanging of twenty cubits of violet and purple, and scarlet twice dyed, and fine twisted linen, with embroidered work: it shall have four pillars with as many sockets.
16
16
in between, at the gateway of the court, there will be hangings of twisted linen thread, embroidered with threads of blue and purple and scarlet twice-dyed, twenty cubits in length; these will have four posts, and as many sockets.
17
All the pillars of the court round about shall be garnished with plates of silver, silver heads and sockets of brass.
17
Omnes columnæ atrii per circuitum vestitæ erunt argenteis laminis, capitibus argenteis, et basibus æneis.
17
All the posts of the court must be plated with silver, and have capitals of silver, and sockets of bronze.
18
In length the court shall take up a hundred cubits, in breadth fifty, the height shall be of five cubits, and it shall be made of fine twisted linen, and shall have sockets of brass.
18
In longitudine occupabit atrium cubitos centum, in latitudine quinquaginta, altitudo quinque cubitorum erit: fietque de bysso retorta, et habebit bases æneas.
18
Thus the court will occupy a space a hundred cubits long and fifty wide, and the enclosure, of twisted linen thread with bronze sockets underneath, will be five cubits in height.
19
All the vessels of the tabernacle for all uses and ceremonies, and the pins both of it, and of the court, thou shalt make of brass.
19
19
All the appurtenances the tabernacle needs for its various purposes and ceremonies, and all the pegs for making the enclosure and the tabernacle itself fast, must be made of bronze.
20
Command the children of Israel that they bring thee the purest oil of the olives, and beaten with a pestle: that a lamp may burn always,
20
20
Bid the Israelites supply thee with olive oil, pure as when the pestle brayed it, so that there may be a lamp burning perpetually
21
In the tabernacle of the testimony, without the veil that hangs before the testimony. And Aaron and his sons shall order it, that it may give light before the Lord until the morning. It shall be a perpetual observance throughout their successions among the children of Israel.
21
Perpetuus erit cultus per successiones eorum a filiis Israël.
21
in the tabernacle that bears record of me, before the veil that hides the place of record. Aaron and his sons are to set it out there, so that it may burn in the Lord’s presence till daybreak. This is a custom the Israelites are to observe in every generation.
