Chapter 15
|
Douay-Rheims><Vulgate><Knox Bible
1
And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
1
1
And the Lord gave Moses and Aaron
2
Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: The man that hath an issue of seed, shall be unclean.
2
2
this message for the Israelites: The man who has a running of the reins is unclean.
3
And then shall he be judged subject to this evil, when a filthy humour, at every moment, cleaveth to his flesh, and gathereth there.
3
3
And he must still be considered unclean, even though his defilement, at certain times, dries up and causes a stoppage.
4
Every bed on which he sleepeth, shall be unclean, and every place on which he sitteth.
4
Omne stratum, in quo dormierit, immundum erit, et ubicumque sederit.
4
Any bed he lies on, anything he sits on, becomes unclean.
5
If any man touch his bed, he shall wash his clothes: and being washed with water, he shall be unclean until the evening.
5
5
The man who touches his bed, must wash his garments and bathe, and hold himself unclean till sundown;
6
If a man sit where that man hath sitten, he also shall wash his clothes: and being washed with water, shall be unclean until the evening.
6
6
and there is the same washing, and bathing, and uncleanness for the man who sits where he sat;
7
He that toucheth his flesh, shall wash his clothes: and being himself washed with water shall be unclean until the evening.
7
7
the same washing, and bathing, and uncleanness, for the man who touches him;
8
If such a man cast his spittle upon him that is clean, he shall wash his clothes: and being washed with water, he shall be unclean until the evening.
8
8
the same washing, and bathing, and uncleanness for the man on whom his spittle falls.
9
The saddle on which he hath sitten shall be unclean.
9
Sagma, super quo sederit, immundum erit:
9
Unclean the saddle on which he has ridden,
10
And whatsoever has been under him that hath the issue of seed, shall be unclean until the evening. He that carrieth any of these things, shall wash his clothes: and being washed with water, he shall be unclean until the evening.
10
10
unclean, till evening comes, everything on which the man so afflicted may rest; the same washing, and bathing, and uncleanness for anyone who carries it in his hands;
11
Every person whom such a one shall touch, not having washed his hands before, shall wash his clothes: and being washed with water, shall be unclean until the evening.
11
11
the same washing, and bathing, and uncleanness for anyone whom he touches, unless he washes his hands first.
12
If he touch a vessel of earth, it shall be broken: but if a vessel of wood, it shall be washed with water.
12
12
Any earthen pot he touches must be broken, any bucket of wood he touches, rinsed with water.
13
If he who suffereth this disease be healed, he shall number seven days after his cleansing, and having washed his clothes, and all his body in living water, he shall be clean.
13
13
If a man so afflicted is healed, he must count seven days from the time of his healing, and then, when he has washed his clothes and his whole body in spring water, he is clean.
14
And on the eighth day he shall take two turtles, or two young pigeons, and he shall come before the Lord, to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and shall give them to the priest:
14
14
On the eighth day, he must bring two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, to the door of the tabernacle that bears record of me, and give them to the priest.
15
Who shall offer one for sin, and the other for a holocaust: and he shall pray for him before the Lord, that he may be cleansed of the issue of his seed.
15
15
The priest will sacrifice one as a victim for his fault, and the other as a burnt-sacrifice, and so make intercession for him in the Lord’s presence, that he may be clean from the defilement of his body.
16
The man from whom the seed of copulation goeth out, shall wash all his body with water: and he shall be unclean until the evening.
16
16
The man who loses the seed of procreation must wash his whole body in water, and remain unclean till evening comes;
17
The garment or skin that he weareth, he shall wash with water, and it shall be unclean until the evening.
17
17
wash, too, in water his garment of stuff or of leather, and that too, till evening comes, is unclean.
18
The woman, with whom he copulateth, shall be washed with water, and shall be unclean until the evening.
18
18
If he has had commerce with a woman, she too must wash, and she too, till evening comes, is unclean.
19
The woman, who at the return of the month, hath her issue of blood, shall be separated seven days.
19
Mulier, quæ redeunte mense patitur fluxum sanguinis, septem diebus separabitur.
19
The woman who loses blood, because her monthly time has come round, must remain a whole week apart;
20
Every one that toucheth her, shall be unclean until the evening.
20
20
whoever touches her is unclean till sundown,
21
And every thing that she sleepeth on, or that she sitteth on in the days of her separation, shall be defiled.
21
21
and all she lies upon or sits upon during this time of separation, becomes defiled thereby.
22
He that toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes: and being himself washed with water, shall be unclean until the evening.
22
22
The man who touches her bed, must wash his garments, and bathe, and hold himself unclean till evening;
23
Whosoever shall touch any vessel on which she sitteth, shall wash his clothes: and himself being washed with water, shall be defiled until the evening.
23
Omne vas, super quo illa sederit, quisquis attigerit, lavabit vestimenta sua: et ipse lotus aqua, pollutus erit usque ad vesperum.
23
and there is the same washing, and bathing, and uncleanness for anyone who touches any piece of furniture on which she has sat down to rest.
24
If a man copulateth with her in the time of her flowers, he shall be unclean seven days: and every bed on which he shall sleep shall be defiled.
24
24
If a man has commerce with her at her monthly time, he remains unclean for a whole week; unclean, too, is any bed on which he lies.
25
The woman that hath an issue of blood many days out of her ordinary time, or that ceaseth not to flow after the monthly courses, as long as she is subject to this disease, shall be unclean, in the same manner as if she were in her flowers.
25
Mulier, quæ patitur multis diebus fluxum sanguinis non in tempore menstruali, vel quæ post menstruum sanguinem fluere non cessat, quamdiu subjacet huic passioni, immunda erit quasi sit in tempore menstruo.
25
A woman who loses blood continually at other times, or when her monthly time is over, must be considered unclean in the same way, as long as her affliction lasts;
26
Every bed on which she sleepeth, and every vessel on which she sitteth, shall be defiled.
26
Omne stratum, in quo dormierit, et vas in quo sederit, pollutum erit.
26
unclean the bed she sleeps on, and all that she rests on,
27
Whosoever toucheth them shall wash his clothes: and himself being washed with water, shall be unclean until the evening.
27
Quicumque tetigerit ea, lavabit vestimenta sua: et ipse lotus aqua, immundus erit usque ad vesperam.
27
unclean, till evening comes, everyone who has touched her, and meanwhile he must wash his garments and bathe in water.
28
If the blood stop and cease to run, she shall count seven days of her purification:
28
28
If the issue of her blood dries up, she must count seven days from the time of her healing,
29
And on the eighth day she shall offer for herself to the priest, two turtles, or two young pigeons, at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony:
29
29
and on the eighth day she will bring two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, to the priest at the door of the tabernacle.
30
And he shall offer one for sin, and the other for a holocaust, and he shall pray for her before the Lord, and for the issue of her uncleanness.
30
30
The priest will sacrifice one as a victim for her fault, and the other as a burnt-sacrifice, and so make intercession for her in the Lord’s presence over the issue of blood that has defiled her.
31
You shall teach therefore the children of Israel to take heed of uncleanness, that they may not die in their filth, when they shall have defiled my tabernacle that is among them.
31
31
You must teach the sons of Israel to be on their guard against uncleanness; or they may be punished with death for the irreverence which has profaned my tabernacle, here in their midst.
32
This is the law of him that hath the issue of seed, and that is defiled by copulation.
32
32
Such are the rules which concern men who are defiled by a running of the reins, or by intercourse with woman,
33
And of the woman that is separated in her monthly times, or that hath a continual issue of blood, and of the man that sleepeth with her.
33
33
and for women who must remain apart because of their monthly time, women who have a continuous issue of blood, and men with whom such women have commerce.
