Chapter 25
|
Vulgate><Douay-Rheims><Knox Bible
1
Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens:
1
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
1
And now the Lord gave Moses this message,
2
2
Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring firstfruits to me: of every man that offereth of his own accord, you shall take them.
2
Bid the Israelites bring me gifts in kind, each man offering what his heart prompts him to offer, for your acceptance.
3
3
And these are the things you must take: gold, and silver, and brass,
3
And these are the gifts you will declare to be acceptable, gold, silver and bronze;
4
hyacinthum et purpuram, coccumque bis tinctum, et byssum, pilos caprarum,
4
Violet and purple, and scarlet twice dyed, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,
4
threads of blue and purple and scarlet twice-dyed, and lawn, and goats’ hair,
5
et pelles arietum rubricatas, pellesque janthinas, et ligna setim:
5
And rams’ skins dyed red, and violet skins, and setim wood:
5
and rams’ fleeces dyed red, and skins dyed violet; acacia wood,
6
6
Oil to make lights: spices for ointment, and for sweetsmelling incense:
6
and oil to feed lamps, spices for the anointing-oil, and sweet-smelling incense;
7
7
Onyx stones, and precious stones to adorn the ephod and the rational.
7
onyx-stones, too, and jewels, to be set in the priestly mantle and burse.
8
Facientque mihi sanctuarium, et habitabo in medio eorum:
8
And they shall make me a sanctuary, and I will dwell in the midst of them:
8
I mean them to build me a sanctuary, so that I can dwell among them;
9
Sicque facietis illud:
9
According to all the likeness of the tabernacle which I will shew thee, and of all the vessels for the service thereof: and thus you shall make it:
9
this tabernacle-dwelling itself and the appurtenances to be used in it must be of the pattern which I will now shew thee. Listen, then, to the fashion of it.
10
10
Frame an ark of setim wood, the length whereof shall be of two cubits and a half: the breadth, a cubit and a half: the height, likewise, a cubit and a half.
10
Make me an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, with a breadth and height of one and a half cubits.
11
11
And thou shalt overlay it with the purest gold within and without: and over it thou shalt make a golden crown round about:
11
Give it a covering and a lining of pure gold, and put a coping of gold all round the top of it;
12
12
And four golden rings, which thou shalt put at the four corners of the ark: let two rings be on the one side, and two on the other.
12
a ring of gold, too, at each of the four corners, two on either of the flanks.
13
13
Thou shalt make bars also of setim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold.
13
Then make poles of acacia wood, gilded over,
14
14
And thou shalt put them in through the rings that are in the sides of the ark, that it may be carried on them.
14
and pass them through the rings on the sides of the ark, so as to carry it;
15
15
And they shall be always in the rings, neither shall they at any time be drawn out of them.
15
these poles are to remain in the rings, never taken out.
16
Ponesque in arca testificationem quam dabo tibi.
16
And thou shalt put in the ark the testimony which I will give thee.
16
In this ark thou wilt enshrine the written law I mean to give thee.
17
17
Thou shalt make also a propitiatory of the purest gold: the length thereof shall be two cubits and a half, and the breadth a cubit and a half.
17
Make a throne, too, of pure gold, two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits broad,
18
18
Thou shalt make also two cherubims of beaten gold, on the two sides of the oracle.
18
and two cherubs of pure beaten gold for the two ends of this throne,
19
19
Let one cherub be on the one side, and the other on the other.
19
one to stand on either side of it;
20
20
Let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings, and covering the oracle, and let them look one towards the other, their faces being turned towards the propitiatory wherewith the ark is to be covered.
20
with their wings outspread to cover the throne, guardians of the shrine. They are to face one another across the throne. And this throne is to be the covering of the ark,
21
in qua pones testimonium quod dabo tibi.
21
In which thou shalt put the testimony that I will give thee.
21
and the ark’s contents, the written law I mean to give thee.
22
22
Thence will I give orders, and will speak to thee over the propitiatory, and from the midst of the two cherubims, which shall be upon the ark of the testimony, all things which I will command the children of Israel by thee.
22
Thence will I issue my commands; from that throne of mercy, between the two cherubs that stand over the ark and its records, my voice shall come to thee, whenever I send word through thee to the sons of Israel.
23
Facies et mensam de lignis setim, habentem duos cubitos longitudinis, et in latitudine cubitum, et in altitudine cubitum et semissem.
23
Thou shalt make a table also of setim wood, of two cubits in length, and a cubit in breadth, and a cubit and a half in height.
23
Make a table, too, of acacia wood, two cubits long, a cubit broad, and a cubit and a half in height;
24
24
And thou shalt overlay it with the purest gold: and thou shalt make to it a golden ledge round about.
24
gild it with pure gold, and make a rim of gold about its edge,
25
et ipsi labio coronam interrasilem altam quatuor digitis: et super illam, alteram coronam aureolam.
25
And to the ledge itself a polished crown, four inches high: and over the same another little golden crown.
25
with an embossed coping four inches high, and a second coping of gold over that.
26
Quatuor quoque circulos aureos præparabis, et pones eis in quatuor angulis ejusdem mensæ per singulos pedes.
26
Thou shalt prepare also four golden rings, and shalt put them in the four corners of the same table over each foot.
26
Make four rings of gold, and fix them to the four corners of the table, one by each leg of it.
27
27
Under the crown shall the golden rings be, that the bars may be put through them, and the table may be carried.
27
The rings must be below the coping, to let poles pass through, that will carry the table;
28
28
The bars also themselves thou shalt make of setim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold to bear up the table.
28
these poles too thou shalt make of acacia wood, and gild them over; so the table shall be carried.
29
29
Thou shalt prepare also dishes, and bowls, censers, and cups, wherein the libations are to be offered of the purest gold.
29
So with the cups, too, and the bowls, and the dishes, and the goblets for pouring out libations; all of them must be of pure gold.
30
Et pones super mensam panes propositionis in conspectu meo semper.
30
And thou shalt set upon the table loaves of proposition in my sight always.
30
The table is to hold the loaves of bread which are to be set out continually in my presence.
31
31
Thou shalt make also a candlestick of beaten work of the finest gold, the shaft thereof, and the branches, the cups, and the bowls, and the lilies going forth from it.
31
Make a lamp-stand, too, of pure beaten gold, stem and branches, cups and bosses, and fleurs-de-lis that spring from them.
32
32
Six branches shall come out of the sides, three out of one side, and three out of the other.
32
Six branches are to come out of the stem, three on each side;
33
33
Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily; and three cups, likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches, that are to come out from the shaft:
33
and on each branch there are to be three cups shaped like almond-flowers, then a boss, then a fleur-de-lis, balanced by three cups and a boss and a fleur-de-lis on the opposite branch; such is to be the fashion of all the six branches that come out of the stem.
34
34
And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one, bowls and lilies.
34
But the stem itself is to have four cups, shaped like almond-flowers, each with its boss and its fleur-de-lis;
35
35
Bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six coming forth out of one shaft.
35
there will be six branches altogether coming out of a single stem, and under each pair of them there will be an additional boss.
36
36
And both the bowls and the branches shall be of the same beaten work of the purest gold.
36
The bosses and the branches must be of a piece with the main stem, and all alike must be of pure beaten gold.
37
37
Thou shalt make also seven lamps, and shalt set them upon the candlestick, to give light over against.
37
Make seven lamps, too, and mount them on the lamp-stand, so as to throw their light on the opposite wall.
38
38
The snuffers also and where the snuffings shall be put out, shall be made of the purest gold.
38
Even the snuffers, and the trays for the burnt wick, must be made of pure gold.
39
Omne pondus candelabri cum universis vasis suis habebit talentum auri purissimi.
39
The whole weight of the candlestick with all the furniture thereof shall be a talent of the purest gold.
39
The whole weight of the lamp-stand, together with its appurtenances, must be a talent of pure gold.
40
40
Look, and make it according to the pattern, that was shewn thee in the mount.
40
Look well, and make everything in due accord with the pattern which has been shewn to thee on the mountain.
