1
And the Lord shewed me Jesus the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord: and Satan stood on his right hand to be his adversary.
1
Sileat omnis caro a facie Domini, quia consurrexit de habitaculo sancto suo.
1
Another vision the Lord shewed me; here was an angel of his, and before this angel stood the high priest Josue, with the Accuser at his right hand bringing accusation against him.
2
And the Lord said to Satan: The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan: and the Lord that chose Jerusalem rebuke thee: Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?
2
Et ostendit mihi Dominus Jesum sacerdotem magnum, stantem coram angelo Domini: et Satan stabat a dextris ejus ut adversaretur ei.
2
But to the Accuser the divine answer came, The Lord rebuke thee, Satan; the Lord, that makes choice of Jerusalem, rebuke thee! What, is not this a brand saved from the embers?
3
And Jesus was clothed with filthy garments: and he stood before the face of the angel.
3
Et dixit Dominus ad Satan: Increpet Dominus in te, Satan! et increpet Dominus in te, qui elegit Jerusalem! numquid non iste torris est erutus de igne?
3
Then, for he saw Josue standing there in his presence very vilely clad,
4
Who answered, and said to them that stood before him, saying: Take away the filthy garments from him. And he said to him: Behold I have taken away thy iniquity, and have clothed thee with change of garments.
4
Et Jesus erat indutus vestibus sordidis, et stabat ante faciem angeli.
4
the angel gave it out to his attendants they should take away these vile rags from him; Guilt of thine, said he, I have set by; thou shalt have new garments to wear instead.
5
And he said: Put a clean mitre upon his head: and they put a clean mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments, and the angel of the Lord stood.
5
Qui respondit, et ait ad eos qui stabant coram se, dicens: Auferte vestimenta sordida ab eo. Et dixit ad eum: Ecce abstuli a te iniquitatem tuam, et indui te mutatoriis.
5
A clean mitre they should give him besides. And so, when the new mitre was on his head and the new garments were about him, the angel of the Lord rose up
6
And the angel of the Lord protested to Jesus, saying:
6
Et dixit: Ponite cidarim mundam super caput ejus. Et posuerunt cidarim mundam super caput ejus, et induerunt eum vestibus: et angelus Domini stabat.
6
and gave Josue his commission from the Lord of hosts:
7
Thus saith the Lord of hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and keep my charge, thou also shalt judge my house, and shalt keep my courts, and I will give thee some of them that are now present here to walk with thee.
7
Et contestabatur angelus Domini Jesum, dicens:
7
My beckoning follow thou, my commands keep thou, people of mine thou shalt govern, house of mine shalt have in thy charge, and in their company, that here stand about thee, shalt come and go.
8
Hear, O Jesus thou high priest, thou and thy friends that dwell before thee, for they are portending men: for behold I WILL BRING MY SERVANT THE ORIENT.
8
Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum: Si in viis meis ambulaveris, et custodiam meam custodieris, tu quoque judicabis domum meam, et custodies atria mea, et dabo tibi ambulantes de his qui nunc hic assistunt.
8
This for the hearing of the high priest Josue, and others his co-assessors, names of good omen all. Time is I should bring hither my servant, that is the Dayspring.
9
For behold the stone that I have laid before Jesus: upon one stone there are seven eyes: behold I will grave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will take away the iniquity of that land in one day.
9
Audi, Jesu sacerdos magne, tu et amici tui, qui habitant coram te, quia viri portendentes sunt: ecce enim ego adducam servum meum Orientem.
9
Stone is here I will set before yonder Josue; a stone that bears seven eyes, device of my own carving, says the Lord of hosts. All the guilt of this land I will banish in a single day.
10
In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, every man shall call his friend under the vine and under the fig tree.
10
Quia ecce lapis quem dedi coram Jesu: super lapidem unum septem oculi sunt: ecce ego cælabo sculpturam ejus, ait Dominus exercituum, et auferam iniquitatem terræ illius in die una.
10
That shall be a day of good cheer, the Lord of hosts says, friend making glad with friend under vine and under fig-tree.
