22 Dan vero, Ezrihel filius Jeroham: hi principes filiorum Israël. |
22 and Ezrihel son of Jeroham for Dan; these were the chiefs of Israel. |
23 But David would not number them from twenty years old and under: because the lord had said that he would multiply Israel like the stars of heaven. |
23 Noluit autem David numerare eos a viginti annis inferius: quia dixerat Dominus ut multiplicaret Israël quasi stellas cæli. |
23 There was no register giving the number of Israelites under twenty years of age; had not the Lord promised that they should be countless as the stars of heaven? |
24 Joab the son of Sarvia began to number, but he finished not: because upon this there fell wrath upon Israel: and therefore the number of them that were numbered, was not registered in the chronicles of king David. |
24 And indeed, when Joab son of Sarvia went about to register them, he left the task incomplete, because of the divine vengeance that fell on Israel; thus the annals of king David do not give the full number of those registered. |
25 And over the king’s treasures was Azmoth the son of Adiel: and over those stores which were in the cities, and in the villages, and, in the castles, was Jonathan the son of Ozias. |
25 The controller of the king’s own treasure-house was Azmoth, son of Adiel; what was stored in cities, townships and fortresses was in the keeping of Jonathan, son of Ozias. |
26 And over the tillage, and the husbandmen, who tilled the ground, was Ezri the son of Chelub: |
26 As for husbandry, the farmers were under Ezri son of Chelub, |
27 And over the dressers of the vineyards, was Semeias a Romathite: and over the wine cellars, Zabdias an Aphonite. |

29 And over the herds that fed in Saron, was Setrai a Saronite: and over the oxen in the valleys, Saphat the son of Adli: |
29 Porro armentis quæ pascebantur in Saron, præpositus fuit Setrai Saronites: et super boves in vallibus, Saphat filius Adli: |
29 Care of the herds that grazed in Saron belonged to the Saronite Satrai, of the cattle in the low grounds, to Saphat son of Adli, |
30 And over the camels, Ubil an Ishmahelite: and over the asses, Jadias a Meronathite: |
30 super camelos vero, Ubil Ismahelites: et super asinos, Jadias Meronathites: |
30 of the camels to the Ismahelite Ubil, of the asses to Jadias the Meronathite, |
31 And over the sheep Jaziz an Agarene. All these were the rulers of the substance of king David. |
31 super oves quoque, Jaziz Agareus: omnes hi, principes substantiæ regis David. |
31 and of the sheep to Jaziz the Agarean. These were the controllers of the king’s property. |
32 And Jonathan David’s uncle, a counsellor, a wise and learned man: he and Jahiel the son of Hachamoni were with the king’s sons. |
32 David had an uncle called Jonathan, a prudent counsellor and a man of letters; he, with Jahiel son of Hachamoni, had charge of the royal princes. |
33 And Achitophel was the king’s counsellor, and Chusai the Arachite, the king’s friend. |
33 Achitophel was the king’s counsellor, and Chusai the Arachite held the title of king’s friend; |
34 And after Achitophel was Joiada the son of Banaias, and Abiathar. And the general of the king’s army was Joab. |
34 Post Achitophel fuit Jojada filius Banaiæ, et Abiathar. Princeps autem exercitus regis erat Joab. |
34 after Achitophel came Banaias’ son Joiada, and Abiathar. And the army was commanded by Joab. |
