1
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
1
And now the Lord said to Moses,
1
Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens:
2
Behold, I have called by name Beseleel the son of Uri the son of Hur of the tribe of Juda,
2
Here is the name of the man I have singled out to help thee, Beseleel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Juda.
2
3
And I have filled him with the spirit of God, with wisdom and understanding, and knowledge in all manner of work.
3
I have filled him with my divine spirit, making him wise, adroit, and skilful in every kind of craftsmanship;
3
et implevi spiritu Dei, sapientia, et intelligentia et scientia in omni opere,
4
To devise whatsoever may be artificially made of gold, and silver, and brass,
4
so that he can design whatever is to be designed in gold, silver, and bronze,
4
5
Of marble, and precious stones, and variety of wood.
5
carve both stone and jewel, and woods of all sorts.
5
marmore, et gemmis, et diversitate lignorum.
6
And I have given him for his companion Ooliab the son of Achisamech of the tribe of Dan. And I have put wisdom in the heart of every skilful man, that they may make all things which I have commanded thee,
6
I have found a partner for him in Oöliab, son of Achisamech, of the tribe of Dan; and I have inspired the hearts of all the craftsmen with skill to carry out the commands which I have given thee.
6
7
The tabernacle of the covenant, and the ark of the testimony, and the propitiatory that is over it, and all the vessels of the tabernacle,
7
The tabernacle which attests my covenant, the ark that bears record of me, the throne above it, and all the appurtenances of the tabernacle,
7
8
And the table and the vessels thereof, the most pure candlestick with the vessels thereof, and the altars of incense,
8
the table with its appurtenances, the lamp-stand of pure gold and all that goes with it, the altar for incense
8
9
And of holocaust, and all their vessels, the laver with its foot,
9
and the altar for burnt-sacrifice, and all that goes with these, the basin and its stand,
9
10
The holy vestments in the ministry for Aaron the priest, and for his sons, that they may execute their office about the sacred things:
10
the sacred vestments to be worn by the high priest Aaron and his sons when they perform their holy office,
10
vestes sanctas in ministerio Aaron sacerdoti, et filiis ejus, ut fungantur officio suo in sacris:
11
The oil of unction, and the incense of spices in the sanctuary, all things which I have commanded thee, shall they make.
11
the oil for anointing, and the incense that is to perfume the sanctuary, all that I have bidden thee make, shall be made through their workmanship.
11
oleum unctionis, et thymiama aromatum in sanctuario, omnia quæ præcepi tibi, facient.
12
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
12
This, too, was the Lord’s word to Moses:
12
Et locutus est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens:
13
Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: See that thou keep my sabbath: because it is a sign between me and you in your generations: that you may know that I am the Lord, who sanctify you.
13
Give the sons of Israel a warning from me, Be sure that you observe the sabbath day. It is a token between us, that is to last all through the ages which lie before you, reminding you that I am the Lord, and you are set apart for me.
13
14
Keep you my sabbath: for it is holy unto you: he that shall profane it, shall be put to death: he that shall do any work in it, his soul shall perish out of the midst of his people.
14
Keep my sabbath; it has a binding claim on you, on pain of death for all who violate it. The man who does any work on that day is lost to his people.
14
15
Six days shall you do work: in the seventh day is the sabbath, the rest holy to the Lord. Every one that shall do any work on this day, shall die.
15
You have six days to work in; the seventh is the sabbath, a day of rest set apart for the Lord, and if anybody works on that day, his life must pay for it.
15
Sex diebus facietis opus: in die septimo sabbatum est, requies sancta Domino; omnis qui fecerit opus in hac die, morietur.
16
Let the children of Israel keep the sabbath, and celebrate it in their generations. It is an everlasting covenant
16
It is for the sons of Israel to observe my sabbath and honour it among themselves, age after age. It is an undying covenant,
16
Custodiant filii Israël sabbatum, et celebrent illud in generationibus suis. Pactum est sempiternum
17
Between me and the children of Israel, and a perpetual sign. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and in the seventh he ceased from work.
17
a perpetual token between me and the Israelites; the Lord spent six days making heaven and earth, and on the seventh he rested from his labours.
17
18
And the Lord, when he had ended these words in mount Sinai, gave to Moses two stone tables of testimony, written with the finger of God.
18
Then, at the end of all this converse with Moses on mount Sinai, the Lord gave him two stone tablets, with laws inscribed on them by the very finger of God.
18
Deditque Dominus Moysi, completis hujuscemodi sermonibus in monte Sinai, duas tabulas testimonii lapideas, scriptas digito Dei.
