Vulgate><Douay-Rheims><Knox Bible
1
Dixit quoque Dominus ad Moysen:
1
The Lord also said to Moses:
1
This, too, was a message the Lord gave to Moses:
2
2
Command the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: Offer ye my oblation and my bread, and burnt sacrifice of most sweet odour, in their due seasons.
2
Bid the sons of Israel bring offerings to regale me, burnt-sacrifices to delight me with the smell of their burning, at the times appointed.
3
Hæc sunt sacrificia quæ offerre debetis: agnos anniculos immaculatos duos quotidie in holocaustum sempiternum:
3
These are the sacrifices which you shall offer: Two lambs of a year old without blemish every day for the perpetual holocaust:
3
Daily, all the year round, they must offer two yearling lambs, without blemish, in burnt-sacrifice to me,
4
unum offeretis mane, et alterum ad vesperum:
4
One you shall offer in the morning, and the other in the evening:
4
one in the morning, one in the evening,
5
decimam partem ephi similæ, quæ conspersa sit oleo purissimo, et habeat quartam partem hin.
5
And the tenth part of an ephi of flour, which shall be tempered with the purest oil, of the measure of the fourth part of a hin.
5
with the tenth of a bushel of flour, kneaded in three pints of pure oil.
6
6
It is the continual holocaust which you offered in mount Sinai for a most sweet odour of a sacrifice by fire to the Lord.
6
The burnt-sacrifice you offered at mount Sinai, to delight the Lord with the smell of its burning, must continue for all time.
7
7
And for a libation you shall offer of wine the fourth part of a hin for every lamb in the sanctuary of the Lord.
7
For each lamb, too, you will make a libation in the Lord’s sanctuary, of three pints of wine.
8
Alterumque agnum similiter offeretis ad vesperam juxta omnem ritum sacrificii matutini, et libamentorum ejus, oblationem suavissimi odoris Domino.
8
And you shall offer the other lamb in like manner in the evening according to all the rites of the morning sacrifice, and of the libations thereof, an oblation of most sweet odour to the Lord.
8
The second lamb will be offered in the evening, repeating all the morning’s ceremonies and its libation, and the Lord will accept the smell of its burning.
9
9
And on the sabbath day you shall offer two lambs of a year old without blemish, and two tenths of flour tempered with oil in sacrifice, and the libations,
9
On the sabbath day you will bring two yearling lambs without blemish, and the fifth of a bushel of flour kneaded with oil as a bread-offering, with due libations
10
quæ rite funduntur per singula sabbata in holocaustum sempiternum.
10
Which regularly are poured out every sabbath for the perpetual holocaust.
10
poured out sabbath after sabbath; the sacrifice must never be omitted.
11
In calendis autem offeretis holocaustum Domino, vitulos de armento duos, arietem unum, agnos anniculos septem immaculatos,
11
And on the first day of the month you shall offer a holocaust to the Lord, two calves of the herd, one ram, and seven lambs of a year old, without blemish,
11
At the new moon, by way of burnt-sacrifice, you will offer to the Lord two bull-calves and a ram, and seven yearling lambs without blemish,
12
12
And three tenths of flour tempered with oil in sacrifice for every calf: and two tenths of flour tempered with oil for every ram:
12
and three tenths of a bushel of flour kneaded with oil by way of bread-offering for each calf, and a fifth for the ram,
13
13
And the tenth of a tenth of flour tempered with oil in sacrifice for every lamb. It is a holocaust of most sweet odour and an offering by fire to the Lord.
13
and a hundredth for each lamb, to delight the Lord with the smell of their burning.
14
14
And these shall be the libations of wine that are to be poured out for every victim: Half a hin for every calf, a third for a ram, and a fourth for a lamb. This shall be the holocaust for every month, as they succeed one another in the course of the year.
14
And libations of wine will go with each victim, six pints for a bullock, four for a ram, and three for a lamb. Each month, as the year goes round, this shall be your burnt-sacrifice.
15
15
A buck goat also shall be offered to the Lord for a sin offering over and above the perpetual holocaust with its libations.
15
And together with this repeated sacrifice you will offer the Lord a goat, to atone for faults.
16
Mense autem primo, quartadecima die mensis, Phase Domini erit,
16
And in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, shall be the phase of the Lord,
16
On the fourteenth day of the first month, the Lord’s paschal feast begins.
17
et quintadecima die solemnitas: septem diebus vescentur azymis.
17
And on the fifteenth day the solemn feast: seven days shall they eat unleavened bread.
17
The fifteenth day is a feast, and for a whole week bread must be eaten unleavened.
18
Quarum dies prima venerabilis et sancta erit: omne opus servile non facietis in ea.
18
And the first day of them shall be venerable and holy: you shall not do any servile work therein.
18
Its first day will be a day of solemn observance, on which no servile work may be done.
19
Offeretisque incensum holocaustum Domino, vitulos de armento duos, arietem unum, agnos anniculos immaculatos septem:
19
And you shall offer a burnt sacrifice a holocaust to the Lord, two calves of the herd, one ram, seven lambs of a year old, without blemish:
19
The burnt-sacrifice made to the Lord will be the same as that of the new moon.
20
20
And for the sacrifices of every one three tenths of flour which shall be tempered with oil to every calf, and two tenths to every ram,
21
21
And the tenth of a tenth, to every lamb, that is to say, to all the seven lambs:
22
22
And one buck goat for sin, to make atonement for you,
22
And one goat must be offered in amends for your faults;
23
præter holocaustum matutinum, quod semper offeretis.
23
Besides the morning holocaust which you shall always offer.
23
all this, over and above the morning sacrifice which is to be made that day as always.
24
24
So shall you do every day of the seven days for the food of the fire, and for a most sweet odour to the Lord, which shall rise from the holocaust, and from the libations of each.
24
Thus you will do on each of the seven days, feeding the fire and delighting the Lord with the smell of your burnt-sacrifice, and the libations that go with it.
25
Dies quoque septimus celeberrimus et sanctus erit vobis: omne opus servile non facietis in eo.
25
The seventh day also shall be most solemn and holy unto you: you shall do no servile work therein.
25
The seventh day too must be a day of solemn observance, on which no servile work may be done.
26
Dies etiam primitivorum, quando offeretis novas fruges Domino, expletis hebdomadibus, venerabilis et sancta erit: omne opus servile non facietis in ea.
26
The day also of firstfruits, when after the weeks are accomplished, you shall offer new fruits to the Lord, shall be venerable and holy: you shall do no servile work therein.
26
Another day of solemn observance, on which no servile work must be done, is the day of first-fruits, when you bring the Lord a bread-offering out of the new crops.
27
Offeretisque holocaustum in odorem suavissimum Domino, vitulos de armento duos, arietem unum, et agnos anniculos immaculatos septem:
27
And you shall offer a holocaust for a most sweet odour to the Lord, two calves of the herd, one ram, and seven lambs of a year old, without blemish:
27
You must bring the Lord a burnt-sacrifice, to delight him with the smell of its burning,
28
28
And in the sacrifices of them three tenths of flour tempered with oil to every calf, two to every ram,
28
as at the new moon.
29
Hircum quoque,
29
The tenth of a tenth to every lamb, which in all are seven lambs: a buck goat also,
29
There must be a goat, too,
30
30
Which is slain for expiation: besides the perpetual holocaust and the libations thereof.
30
offered in amends for fault; all this, over and above the daily sacrifice and its libations.
31
Immaculata offeretis omnia cum libationibus suis.
31
You shall offer them all without blemish with their libations.
31
Sacrifice or libation, all that you offer the Lord must be without blemish.
