The first day also of the seventh month shall be venerable and holy unto you; you shall do no servile work therein, because it is the day of the sounding and of trumpets.

So, too, you will make the first day of the seventh month a day of solemn obser-vance, and a holiday from servile work; it is to be marked by a blast of trumpets.

Mensis etiam septimi prima dies venerabilis et sancta erit vobis. Omne opus servile non facietis in ea, quia dies clangoris est et tubarum.

And you shall offer a holocaust for a most sweet odour to the Lord, one calf of the herd, one ram and seven lambs of a year old, without blemish.

It will have its fragrant burnt-sacrifice, of a bull, a ram, and seven yearling lambs without blemish;

Offeretisque holocaustum in odorem suavissimum Domino, vitulum de armento unum, arietem unum, et agnos anniculos immaculatos septem:

And for their sacrifices, three tenths of flour tempered with oil to every calf, two tenths to a ram,

and the bread-offering to go with them, three-tenths of a bushel of flour kneaded with oil for the bull, a fifth for the ram,

et in sacrificiis eorum, similæ oleo conspersæ tres decimas per singulos vitulos, duas decimas per arietem,

One tenth to a lamb, which in all are seven lambs:

a tenth for each of the seven lambs.

unam decimam per agnum, qui simul sunt agni septem:

And a buck goat for sin, which is offered for the expiation of the people,

And a goat will be offered to make amends for the people’s faults.

et hircum pro peccato, qui offertur in expiationem populi,

Besides the holocaust of the first day of the month with the sacrifices thereof, and the perpetual holocaust with the accustomed libations. With the same ceremonies you shall offer a burnt sacrifice for a most sweet odour to the Lord.

All this, over and above the monthly sacrifice and its offerings, over and above the daily sacrifice and its libations; a third offering that day, with the same ceremonies, will delight the Lord with the smell of its burning.

The tenth day also of this seventh month shall be holy and venerable unto you, and you shall afflict your souls: you shall do no servile work therein.

The tenth day of this seventh month is to be solemnly observed as a day of fasting, and also of rest from work.

And you shall offer a holocaust to the Lord for a most sweet odour, one calf of the herd, one ram, and seven lambs of a year old, without blemish:

The tenth of a tenth to every lamb, which are in all seven lambs:

a hundredth of a bushel of flour for each of the seven lambs,

decimam decimæ per agnos singulos, qui sunt simul agni septem:

And a buck goat for sin, besides the things that are wont to be offered for sin, for expiation, and for the perpetual holocaust with their sacrifice and libations.

and a goat for your faults. That day, too, will have its special ceremonies of atonement for wrong done, and the daily sacrifice will be made, with its bread-offering and libations, in the customary way.

et hircum pro peccato, absque his quæ offerri pro delicto solent in expiationem, et holocaustum sempiternum, cum sacrificio et libaminibus eorum.

And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, which shall be unto you holy and venerable, you shall do no servile work, but shall celebrate a solemnity to the Lord seven days.

On the fifteenth day of this seventh month, which is also to be solemnly observed as a holiday, you will begin a week of observance in the Lord’s honour,

Quintadecima vero die mensis septimi, quæ vobis sancta erit atque venerabilis, omne opus servile non facietis in ea, sed celebrabitis solemnitatem Domino septem diebus.

And you shall offer a holocaust for a most sweet odour to the Lord, thirteen calves of the herd, two rams, and fourteen lambs of a year old, without blemish:

offering him a fragrant burnt-sacrifice of thirteen bull-calves, two rams, and fourteen lambs,

And for their libations three tenths of flour tempered with oil to every calf, being in all thirteen calves: and two tenths to each ram, being two rams,

with the usual bread-offering for each bull, each ram,

et in libamentis eorum, similæ oleo conspersæ tres decimas per vitulos singulos, qui sunt simul vituli tredecim, et duas decimas arieti uno, id est, simul arietibus duobus,

And the tenth of a tenth to every lamb, being in all fourteen lambs:

each of the fourteen lambs,

et decimam decimæ agnis singulis, qui sunt simul agni quatuordecim:

And a buck goat for sin, besides the perpetual holocaust, and the sacrifice and the libation thereof.

and a goat for your faults, over and above the daily sacrifice and what goes with it.

et hircum pro peccato, absque holocausto sempiterno, et sacrificio, et libamine ejus.

On the second day you shall offer twelve calves of the herd, two rams and fourteen lambs of a year old, without blemish:

The next day you will offer the same number of rams and lambs, but only twelve calves,

And the sacrifices and the libations for every one, for the calves and for the rams and for the lambs you shall duly celebrate:

all with their customary bread-offerings and libations;

And a buck goat for a sin offering besides the perpetual holocaust, and the sacrifice and the libation thereof.

a goat, too, for faults, over and above the daily ceremonies.

The third day you shall offer eleven calves, two rams, and fourteen lambs of a year old, without blemish:

On the third day eleven calves, and the rest as before;

And the sacrifices and the libations of every one for the calves and for the rams and for the lambs you shall offer according to the rite:

And a buck goat for sin, besides the perpetual holocaust, and the sacrifice, and the libation thereof.

The fourth day you shall offer ten calves, two rams, and fourteen lambs of a year old, without blemish:

on the fourth day ten calves, and the rest as before;

The fifth day you shall offer nine calves, two rams, and fourteen lambs of a year old, without blemish:

on the fifth day nine calves, and the rest as before;

on the sixth day eight calves and the rest as before;

On the eighth day, which is most solemn, you shall do no servile work:

The eighth day, too, is to be held in all honour as a holiday;

and this day too you will offer fragrant burnt-sacrifice, but only one bull, one ram, and seven yearling lambs without blemish,

offerentes holocaustum in odorem suavissimum Domino, vitulum unum, arietem unum, agnos anniculos immaculatos septem:

And the sacrifices and the libations of every one for the calves and for the rams and for the lambs you shall celebrate according to the rite:

with their customary bread-offerings and libations,

sacrificiaque et libamina singulorum, per vitulos, et arietes, et agnos rite celebrabitis:

And a buck goat for sin, besides the perpetual holocaust, and the sacrifice and the libation thereof.

and a goat for your faults, over and above the daily sacrifice and what goes with it.

et hircum pro peccato, absque holocausto sempiterno, sacrificioque ejus et libamine.

These things shall you offer to the Lord in your solemnities: besides your vows and voluntary oblations for holocaust, for sacrifice, for libation, and for victims of peace offerings.

Such are the offerings you must make to God at your public festivals, over and above those you bring in payment of a vow, or out of devotion, burnt-sacrifice and bloodless sacrifice and libation and welcome-offering.

Hæc offeretis Domino in solemnitatibus vestris: præter vota et oblationes spontaneas in holocausto, in sacrificio, in libamine, et in hostiis pacificis.
