1 Besellel also made an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, with a breadth and height of one and a half cubits, and gave it a covering and a lining of pure gold, |
1 And Beseleel made also the ark of setim wood: it was two cubits and a half in length, and a cubit and a half in breadth, and the height was of one cubit and a half: and he overlaid it with the purest gold within and without. |
2 Et fecit illi coronam auream per gyrum, |
2 putting a coping of gold all round the top of it, |
2 And he made to it a crown of gold round about, |
3 conflans quatuor annulos aureos per quatuor angulos ejus: duos annulos in latere uno, et duos in altero. |
3 and four rings, cast in gold, at its four corners, two on each of the flanks. |
3 Casting four rings of gold at the four corners thereof: two rings in one side, and two in the other. |
4 Vectes quoque fecit de lignis setim, quos vestivit auro, |
4 Then he made poles of acacia wood, gilded over, |
4 And he made bars of setim wood, which he overlaid with gold, |
5 and passed them through the rings on the sides of the ark, so as to carry it. |
5 And he put them into the rings that were at the sides of the ark to carry it. |
6 He made a throne, too, or shrine, of pure gold, two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits broad, |
6 He made also the propitiatory, that is, the oracle, of the purest gold, two cubits and a half in length, and a cubit and a half in breadth. |
7 and two cherubs of pure beaten gold, which he set up on either side of the throne, each of them at its extreme edge. |
7 Two cherubims also of beaten gold, which he set on the two sides of the propitiatory: |
8 cherub unum in summitate unius partis, et cherub alterum in summitate partis alterius: duos cherubim in singulis summitatibus propitiatorii, |
8 And these two cherubs that stood at the extreme edges of the throne |
8 One cherub in the top of one side, and the other cherub in the top of the other side: two cherubims at the two ends of the propitiatory, |
9 extendentes alas, et tegentes propitiatorium, seque mutuo et illud respicientes. |
9 overshadowed it with their outspread wings, facing towards it and towards each other. |
9 Spreading their wings, and covering the propitiatory, and looking one towards the other, and towards it. |
10 And he made a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, a cubit broad, and a cubit and a half in height; |
10 He made also the table of setim wood, in length two cubits, and in breadth one cubit, and in height it was a cubit and a half. |
11 this he gilded with pure gold, and made a rim of gold about its edge, |
11 And he overlaid it with the finest gold, and he made to it a golden ledge round about. |
12 ipsique labio coronam auream interrasilem quatuor digitorum, et super eamdem, alteram coronam auream. |
12 with an embossed coping four inches high, and a second coping of gold over that. |
12 And to the ledge itself he made a polished crown of gold, of four fingers’ breadth, and upon the same another golden crown. |
13 Fudit et quatuor circulos aureos, quos posuit in quatuor angulis per singulos pedes mensæ |
13 Then he cast four rings and fixed them to the four corners of the table, one by each leg |
13 And he cast four rings of gold, which he put in the four corners at each foot of the table, |
14 contra coronam: misitque in eos vectes, ut possit mensa portari. |
14 close to the coping; and he put poles through them, that would carry the table; |
14 Over against the crown: and he put the bars into them, that the table might be carried. |
15 these poles, too, he made of acacia wood, and gilded them over. |
15 And the bars also themselves he made of setim wood, and overlaid them with gold, |
16 So with the appurtenances of the table, cups, and bowls, and dishes, and goblets for pouring out libations; all were of pure gold. |
16 And the vessels for the divers uses of the table, dishes, bowls, and cups, and censers of pure gold, wherein the libations are to be offered. |
17 And he made a lamp-stand of pure beaten gold, with branches coming out from its stem, all with their cups and bosses and fleurs-de-lis. |
17 He made also the candlestick of beaten work of the finest gold. From the shaft whereof its branches, its cups, and bowls, and lilies came out: |
18 Six branches stood about the stem, three on either side; |
18 Six on the two sides: three branches on one side, and three on the other. |
19 and on each branch there were three cups shaped like almond-flowers, then a boss, then a fleur-de-lis, balanced by three cups and a boss and a fleur-de-lis on the opposite branch; such was the fashion of all the six branches that came out of the stem. |
19 Three cups in manner of a nut on each branch, and bowls withal and lilies; and three cups of the fashion of a nut in another branch, and bowls withal and lilies. The work of the six branches that went out from the shaft of the candlestick was equal. |
20 But the stem itself had four cups, shaped like almond-flowers, each with its boss and its fleur-de-lis; |
20 And in the shaft itself were four cups after the manner of a nut, and bowls withal at every one, and lilies: |
21 there were six branches altogether coming out of a single stem, and under each pair of them there was an additional boss. |
21 And bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six branches going out from one shaft. |
22 The bosses and the branches were all of a piece with the main stem, and all alike were of pure beaten gold. |
22 So both the bowls, and the branches were of the same, all beaten work of the purest gold. |
23 He made seven lamps, too, with snuffers and trays for the burnt wick, all of pure gold. |
23 He made also the seven lamps with their snuffers, and the vessels where the snuffings were to be put out, of the purest gold. |
24 Talentum auri appendebat candelabrum cum omnibus vasis suis. |
24 The whole weight of the lamp-stand, together with its appurtenances, was a talent of gold. |
24 The candlestick with all the vessels thereof weighed a talent of gold. |
25 And he made an altar of acacia wood for burning incense, a cubit square, with a height of two cubits; it had horns at the corners. |
25 He made also the altar of incense of setim wood, being a cubit on every side foursquare, and in height two cubits: from the corners of which went out horns. |
26 And he covered the whole with pure gold, the grate and the walls around it and the horns too. |
26 And he overlaid it with the purest gold, with its grate and the sides, and the horns. |
27 It had a rim of gold about it, and close under the rim two gold rings on either side, for putting poles in, so that the altar could be carried. |
27 And he made to it a crown of gold round about, and two golden rings under the crown at each side, that the bars might be put into them, and the altar be carried. |
28 These poles, too, were of acacia wood, gilded over. |
28 And the bars themselves he made also of setim wood, and overlaid them with plates of gold. |
29 And he made oil for the hallowing ointment, and incense of pure spices, with all the art of a perfumer. |
29 He compounded also the oil for the ointment of sanctification, and incense of the purest spices, according to the work of a perfumer. |
