Fecit et altare holocausti de lignis setim, quinque cubitorum per quadrum, et trium in altitudine:

He made another altar, too, of acacia wood, for burnt-sacrifice, with a surface five cubits square, and a height of three cubits;

He made also the altar of holocaust of setim wood, five cubits square, and three in height:

cujus cornua de angulis procedebant, operuitque illum laminis æneis.

it had horns at the corners, and it was plated with bronze.

The horns whereof went out from the corners, and he overlaid it with plates of brass.

Et in usus ejus paravit ex ære vasa diversa, lebetes, forcipes, fuscinulas, uncinos, et ignium receptacula.

And he provided it with appurtenances all of bronze, ash-pans, tongs, forks, hooks and braziers;

And for the uses thereof, he prepared divers vessels of brass, cauldrons, tongs, fleshhooks, pothooks, and firepans.

Craticulamque ejus in modum retis fecit æneam, et subter eam in altaris medio arulam,

and made it a bronze grating of network, and a hearth under this, in the middle of the altar.

And he made the grate thereof of brass, in manner of a net, and under it in the midst of the altar a hearth,

fusis quatuor annulis per totidem retiaculi summitates, ad immittendos vectes ad portandum:

He also cast four rings, to go at the four extreme ends of the grating; through these, poles were to be passed, to carry the altar.

Casting four rings at the four ends of the net at the top, to put in bars to carry it.

quos et ipsos fecit de lignis setim, et operuit laminis æneis:

The poles themselves he made of acacia wood, covered with a plating of bronze,

And he made the bars of setim wood, and overlaid them with plates of brass:

induxitque in circulos, qui in lateribus altaris eminebant. Ipsum autem altare non erat solidum, sed cavum ex tabulis, et intus vacuum.

and set them in the rings that stood out from the sides of the altar. This altar was not solid, but hollow, made of frames with an empty space between them.

And he drew them through the rings that stood out in the sides of the altar. And the altar itself was not solid, but hollow, of boards, and empty within.

Fecit et labrum æneum cum basi sua de speculis mulierum, quæ excubabant in ostio tabernaculi.

Then he made a washing-basin and a stand for it, out of bronze from the mirrors of the women who used to keep watch at the door of the tabernacle.

He made also the laver of brass, with the foot thereof, of the mirrors of the women that watched at the door of the tabernacle.

Fecit et atrium, in cujus australi plaga erant tentoria de bysso retorta, cubitorum centum,

He made a court, too, at the south side of which there were hangings of twisted linen thread, a hundred cubits long,

He made also the court, in the south side whereof were hangings of fine twisted linen, of a hundred cubits,

columnæ æneæ viginti cum basibus suis, capita columnarum, et tota operis cælatura, argentea.

and twenty posts, with brazen sockets, with their capitals and all their chased work of silver.

Twenty pillars of brass with their sockets, the heads of the pillars, and the whole graving of the work, of silver.

Æque ad septentrionalem plagam tentoria columnæ, basesque et capita columnarum ejusdem mensuræ, et operis ac metalli, erant.

On the north side, too, there were hangings, and posts with their sockets and capitals, all of the same measurement, workmanship, and material.

In like manner at the north side the hangings, the pillars, and the sockets and heads of the pillars were of the same measure, and work and metal.

In ea vero plaga, quæ ad occidentem respicit, fuerunt tentoria cubitorum quinquaginta, columnæ decem cum basibus suis æneæ, et capita columnarum, et tota operis cælatura, argentea.

But on the side which looked westwards the hangings were only fifty cubits long, and the posts, with their brazen sockets, their silver capitals, and chased work, were only ten in number.

But on that side that looketh to the west, there were hangings of fifty cubits, ten pillars of brass with their sockets, and the heads of the pillars, and all the graving of the work, of silver.

Porro contra orientem quinquaginta cubitorum paravit tentoria:

For the eastern side, it was fifty cubits long;

Moreover towards the east he prepared hangings of fifty cubits:

e quibus, quindecim cubitos columnarum trium, cum basibus suis, unum tenebat latus:

fifteen cubits occupied the space at one end, in which there were three sockets and three posts,

Fifteen cubits of which were on one side with three pillars, and their sockets:

et in parte altera (quia inter utraque introitum tabernaculi fecit) quindecim æque cubitorum erant tentoria, columnæque tres, et bases totidem.

and at the other end (leaving room in between for the entrance which led to the tabernacle) there were again hangings fifteen cubits long, three posts, and three sockets.

And on the other side (for between the two he made the entry of the tabernacle) there were hangings equally of fifteen cubits, and three pillars, and as many sockets.

Cuncta atrii tentoria byssus retorta texuerat.

All these hangings for the court he had made out of twisted linen thread.

All the hangings of the court were woven with twisted linen.

Bases columnarum fuere æneæ, capita autem earum cum cunctis cælaturis suis argentea: sed et ipsas columnas atrii vestivit argento.

The sockets for the posts were of bronze; the capitals were of silver, in chased work; the posts of the court he plated with silver.

The sockets of the pillars were of brass, and their heads with all their gravings of silver: and he overlaid the pillars of the court also with silver.

Et in introitu ejus opere plumario fecit tentorium ex hyacintho, purpura, vermiculo, ac bysso retorta, quod habebat viginti cubitos in longitudine, altitudo vero quinque cubitorum erat juxta mensuram, quam cuncta atrii tentoria habebant.

At the entrance, he made a hanging of twisted linen threads, embroidered with threads of blue and purple and scarlet twice-dyed, twenty cubits long, and, like all the hangings of the court, five cubits high.

And he made in the entry thereof an embroidered hanging of violet, purple, scarlet, and fine twisted linen, that was twenty cubits long, and five cubits high according to the measure of all the hangings of the court.

Columnæ autem in ingressu fuere quatuor cum basibus æneis, capitaque earum et cælaturæ argenteæ.

There were four posts at the entrance, with sockets of bronze and capitals of chased silver.

And the pillars in the entry were four with sockets of brass, and their heads and gravings of silver.

Paxillos quoque tabernaculi et atrii per gyrum fecit æneos.

The pegs which kept the tabernacle and the court in place, all round, were made of bronze.

The pins also of the tabernacle and of the court round about he made of brass.

Here is an account, drawn up at Moses’ command by the priest Ithamar, son of Aaron, with the help of the Levites. It shews what was spent on the tabernacle that bears record of the Lord,

These are the instruments of the tabernacle of the testimony, which were counted according to the commandment of Moses, in the ceremonies of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest:

quæ Beseleel filius Uri filii Hur de tribu Juda, Domino per Moysen jubente, compleverat,

when all the work was completed, at the Lord’s command given through Moses, by Beseleel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Juda.

Which Beseleel the son of Uri the son of Hur of the tribe of Juda had made as the Lord commanded by Moses,

juncto sibi socio Ooliab filio Achisamech de tribu Dan: qui et ipse artifex lignorum egregius fuit, et polymitarius atque plumarius ex hyacintho, purpura, vermiculo et bysso.

(He had Oöliab, too, son of Achisamech, of the tribe of Dan, to help him; he too was a famous craftsman in wood, he too could make tapestry and embroidery from threads of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and lawn.)

Having for his companion Ooliab the son of Achisamech of the tribe of Dan: who also was an excellent artificer in wood, and worker in tapestry and embroidery in violet, purple, scarlet, and fine linen.

Omne aurum quod expensum est in opere sanctuarii, et quod oblatum est in donariis, viginti novem talentorum fuit, et septingentorum triginta siclorum ad mensuram sanctuarii.

The sum of gold spent in building the sanctuary, provided by the contribution, was twenty-nine talents and seven hundred and thirty sicles, by sanctuary reckoning.

All the gold that was spent in the work of the sanctuary, and that was offered in gifts was nine and twenty talents, and seven hundred and thirty sicles according to the standard of the sanctuary.

Oblatum est autem ab his qui transierunt ad numerum a viginti annis et supra, de sexcentis tribus millibus et quingentis quinquaginta armatorum.

Offerings, too, were made by those who were registered, six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty men under arms, from the age of twenty upwards;

And it was offered by them that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upwards, of six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty men able to bear arms.

Fuerunt præterea centum talenta argenti e quibus conflatæ sunt bases sanctuarii, et introitus, ubi velum pendet.

thus there were also a hundred talents of silver, from which they made the sockets of the holy place, and those of the entrance, where the veil hangs;

There were moreover a hundred talents of silver, whereof were cast the sockets of the sanctuary, and of the entry where the veil hangeth.

Centum bases factæ sunt de talentis centum, singulis talentis per bases singulas supputatis.

a hundred sockets were made out of a hundred talents, one talent for each socket.

A hundred sockets were made of a hundred talents, one talent being reckoned for every socket.

De mille autem septingentis et septuaginta quinque, fecit capita columnarum, quas et ipsas vestivit argento.

They used besides a thousand seven hundred and seventy-five sicles over the capitals of the posts, and the posts themselves where these were plated with silver.

And of the thousand seven hundred and seventy-five he made the heads of the pillars, which also he overlaid with silver.

Æris quoque oblata sunt talenta septuaginta duo millia, et quadringenti supra sicli,

Seventy-two thousand talents and four hundred sicles of bronze were offered,

And there were offered of brass also seventy-two thousand talents, and four hundred sicles besides.

ex quibus fusæ sunt bases in introitu tabernaculi testimonii, et altare æneum cum craticula sua, omniaque vasa quæ ad usum ejus pertinent,

and of these they made the sockets of the approach to the tabernacle that bears record of the Lord, and the brazen altar with its grating, and all the appurtenances used at it;

Of which were cast the sockets in the entry of the tabernacle of the testimony, and the altar of brass with the grate thereof, and all the vessels that belong to the use thereof.

et bases atrii tam in circuitu quam in ingressu ejus, et paxilli tabernaculi atque atrii per gyrum.

and the sockets round the court and at the entrance to the court, and the pegs which held up the tabernacle and the enclosure round about.

And the sockets of the court as well round about as in the entry thereof, and the pins of the tabernacle and of the court round about.
