Respondens autem Baldad Suhites, dixit:

Then Baldad the Suhite answered, and said:

Potestas et terror apud eum est, qui facit concordiam in sublimibus suis.

Power and terror are with him, who maketh peace in his high places.

Ay, but what power, ay, but what terrors he wields, who reigns peacefully, there in high heaven!

Numquid est numerus militum ejus? et super quem non surget lumen illius?

Is there any numbering of his soldiers? and upon whom shall not his light arise?

He, the lord of countless armies, he, whose light dazzles every eye!

Numquid justificari potest homo comparatus Deo? aut apparere mundus natus de muliere?

Can men be justified compared with God, or he that is born of a women appear clean?

And shall man, born of woman, win his suit, prove his innocence, when he is matched with God?

Ecce luna etiam non splendet, et stellæ non sunt mundæ in conspectu ejus:
5
Behold even the moon doth not shine, and the stars are not pure in his sight.

Dim shews the moon, tarnished the stars, under his eye;

quanto magis homo putredo, et filius hominis vermis?

How much less man that is rottenness and the son of man who is a worm?

and what is man but waste and worm in his presence?
