Potestas et terror apud eum est, qui facit concordiam in sublimibus suis. | 2 Ay, but what power, ay, but what terrors he wields, who reigns peacefully, there in high heaven! | 2 Power and terror are with him, who maketh peace in his high places. |
Numquid est numerus militum ejus? et super quem non surget lumen illius? | 3 He, the lord of countless armies, he, whose light dazzles every eye! | 3 Is there any numbering of his soldiers? and upon whom shall not his light arise? |
Numquid justificari potest homo comparatus Deo? aut apparere mundus natus de muliere? | 4 And shall man, born of woman, win his suit, prove his innocence, when he is matched with God? | 4 Can men be justified compared with God, or he that is born of a women appear clean? |
Ecce luna etiam non splendet, et stellæ non sunt mundæ in conspectu ejus: | 5 Dim shews the moon, tarnished the stars, under his eye; | 5 Behold even the moon doth not shine, and the stars are not pure in his sight. |
quanto magis homo putredo, et filius hominis vermis? | 6 and what is man but waste and worm in his presence? | 6 How much less man that is rottenness and the son of man who is a worm? |
