1 Psalmus David. Dixit Dominus Domino meo: Sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum. | 1 A psalm for David. The Lord said to my Lord: Sit thou at my right hand: Until I make thy enemies thy footstool. | 1 (Of David. A psalm. ) To the Master I serve the Lord’s promise was given, Sit here at my right hand while I make thy enemies a footstool under thy feet. |
2 Virgam virtutis tuæ emittet Dominus ex Sion: dominare in medio inimicorum tuorum. | 2 The Lord will send forth the sceptre of thy power out of Sion: rule thou in the midst of thy enemies. | 2 The Lord will make thy empire spring up like a branch out of Sion; thou art to bear rule in the midst of thy enemies. |
3 Tecum principium in die virtutis tuæ in splendoribus sanctorum: ex utero, ante luciferum, genui te. | 3 With thee is the principality in the day of thy strength: in the brightness of the saints: from the womb before the day star I begot thee. | 3 From birth, princely state shall be thine, holy and glorious; thou art my son, born like dew before the day-star rises. |
4 Juravit Dominus, et non pœnitebit eum: Tu es sacerdos in æternum secundum ordinem Melchisedech. | 4 The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent: Thou art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedech. | 4 The Lord has sworn an oath there is no retracting, Thou art a priest for ever in the line of Melchisedech. |
5 Dominus a dextris tuis; confregit in die iræ suæ reges. | 5 The Lord at thy right hand hath broken kings in the day of his wrath. | 5 At thy right hand, the Lord will beat down kings in the day of his vengeance; |
6 Judicabit in nationibus, implebit ruinas; conquassabit capita in terra multorum. | 6 He shall judge among nations, he shall fill ruins: he shall crush the heads in the land of many. | 6 he will pass sentence on the nations, heap high the bodies, scatter far and wide the heads of the slain. |
7 De torrente in via bibet; propterea exaltabit caput. | 7 He shall drink of the torrent in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head. | 7 Let him but drink of the brook by the wayside, he will lift up his head in victory. |
