Alleluja. |
Alleluia. |
(Alleluia.) |
1 Confitemini Domino, quoniam bonus, quoniam in sæculum misericordia ejus. |
1 Give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. |
1 Give thanks to the Lord; the Lord is gracious, his mercy endures for ever. |
2 Dicat nunc Israël: Quoniam bonus, quoniam in sæculum misericordia ejus. |
2 Let Israel now say, that he is good: that his mercy endureth for ever. |
2 Echo the cry, sons of Israel; the Lord is gracious, his mercy endures for ever. |
3 Dicat nunc domus Aaron: Quoniam in sæculum misericordia ejus. |
3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. |
3 His mercy endures for ever, echo the cry, sons of Aaron; |
4 Dicant nunc qui timent Dominum: Quoniam in sæculum misericordia ejus. |
4 Let them that fear the Lord now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. |
4 his mercy endures for ever; echo the cry, all you who are the Lord’s worshippers. |
5 De tribulatione invocavi Dominum, et exaudivit me in latitudine Dominus. |
5 In my trouble I called upon the Lord: and the Lord heard me, and enlarged me. |
5 I called on the Lord when trouble beset me, and the Lord listened, and brought me relief. |
6 Dominus mihi adjutor; non timebo quid faciat mihi homo. |
6 The Lord is my helper: I will not fear what man can do unto me. |
6 With the Lord at my side, I have no fear of the worst man can do; |
7 Dominus mihi adjutor, et ego despiciam inimicos meos. |
7 The Lord is my helper: and I will look over my enemies. |
7 with the Lord at my side to aid me, I shall yet see my enemies baffled. |
8 Bonum est confidere in Domino, quam confidere in homine. |
8 It is good to confide in the Lord, rather than to have confidence in man. |
8 Better trust the Lord than rely on the help of man; |
9 Bonum est sperare in Domino, quam sperare in principibus. |
9 It is good to trust in the Lord, rather than to trust in princes. |
9 better trust the Lord than rely on the word of princes. |
10 Omnes gentes circuierunt me, et in nomine Domini, quia ultus sum in eos. |
10 All nations compassed me about; and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them. |
10 Let all heathendom ring me round, see, in the power of the Lord I crush them! |
11 Circumdantes circumdederunt me, et in nomine Domini, quia ultus sum in eos. |
11 Surrounding me they compassed me about: and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them. |
11 They cut me off from every way of escape, but see, in the power of the Lord I crush them! |
12 Circumdederunt me sicut apes, et exarserunt sicut ignis in spinis: et in nomine Domini, quia ultus sum in eos. |
12 They surrounded me like bees, and they burned like fire among thorns: and in the name of the Lord I was revenged on them. |
12 They swarm about me like bees, their fury blazes up like fire among thorns, but see, in the power of the Lord, I crush them! |
13 Impulsus eversus sum, ut caderem, et Dominus suscepit me. |
13 Being pushed I was overturned that I might fall: but the Lord supported me. |
13 I reeled under the blow, and had well-nigh fallen, but still the Lord was there to aid me. |
14 Fortitudo mea et laus mea Dominus, et factus est mihi in salutem. |
14 The Lord is my strength and my praise: and he is become my salvation. |
14 Who but the Lord is my protector, my stronghold; who but the Lord has brought me deliverance? |
15 Vox exsultationis et salutis in tabernaculis justorum. |
15 The voice of rejoicing and of salvation is in the tabernacles of the just. |
15 The homes of the just echo, now, with glad cries of victory; the power of the Lord has triumphed. |
16 Dextera Domini fecit virtutem; dextera Domini exaltavit me: dextera Domini fecit virtutem. |
16 The right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength: the right hand of the Lord hath exalted me: the right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength. |
16 The power of the Lord has brought me to great honour, the power of the Lord has triumphed. |
17 Non moriar, sed vivam, et narrabo opera Domini. |
17 I shall not die, but live: and shall declare the works of the Lord. |
17 I am reprieved from death, to live on and proclaim what the Lord has done for me. |
18 Castigans castigavit me Dominus, et morti non tradidit me. |
18 The Lord chastising hath chastised me: but he hath not delivered me over to death. |
18 The Lord has chastened me, chastened me indeed, but he would not doom me to die. |
19 Aperite mihi portas justitiæ: ingressus in eas confitebor Domino. |
19 Open ye to me the gates of justice: I will go in to them, and give praise to the Lord. |
19 Open me the gates where right dwells; let me go in and thank the Lord! |
20 Hæc porta Domini: justi intrabunt in eam. |
20 This is the gate of the Lord, the just shall enter into it. |
20 Here is the gate that leads to the Lord’s presence; here shall just souls find entry. |
21 Confitebor tibi quoniam exaudisti me, et factus es mihi in salutem. |
21 I will give glory to thee because thou hast heard me: and art become my salvation. |
21 Thanks be to thee, Lord, for giving me audience, thanks be to thee, my deliverer. |
22 Lapidem quem reprobaverunt ædificantes, hic factus est in caput anguli. |
22 The stone which the builders rejected; the same is become the head of the corner. |
22 The very stone which the builders rejected has become the chief stone at the corner; |
23 A Domino factum est istud, et est mirabile in oculis nostris. |
23 This is the Lord’s doing: and it is wonderful in our eyes. |
23 this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes. |
24 Hæc est dies quam fecit Dominus; exsultemus, et lætemur in ea. |
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made: let us be glad and rejoice therein. |
24 This day is a holiday of the Lord’s own choosing; greet this day with rejoicing, greet this day with triumph! |
25 O Domine, salvum me fac; o Domine, bene prosperare. |
25 O Lord, save me: O Lord, give good success. |
25 Deliverance, Lord, deliverance; Lord, grant us days of prosperity! |
26 Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini: benediximus vobis de domo Domini. |
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord. We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. |
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! A blessing from the Lord’s house upon your company! |
27 Deus Dominus, et illuxit nobis. Constituite diem solemnem in condensis, usque ad cornu altaris. |
27 The Lord is God, and he hath shone upon us. Appoint a solemn day, with shady boughs, even to the horn of the altar. |
27 The Lord is God; his light shines out to welcome us; marshal the procession aright, with a screen of boughs that reaches to the very horns of the altar. |
28 Deus meus es tu, et confitebor tibi; Deus meus es tu, et exaltabo te. Confitebor tibi quoniam exaudisti me, et factus es mihi in salutem. |
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, and I will exalt thee. I will praise thee, because thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation. |
28 Thou art my God, mine to thank thee, thou art my God, mine to extol thee. |
29 Confitemini Domino, quoniam bonus, quoniam in sæculum misericordia ejus. |
29 O praise ye the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. |
29 Give thanks to the Lord; the Lord is gracious, his mercy endures for ever. |
