Canticum graduum David.
(A song of ascents. Of David.)
A gradual canticle of David.
1
1
Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes not raised from the earth; my mind does not dwell on high things, on marvels that are beyond my reach.
1
Lord, my heart is not exalted: nor are my eyes lofty.
2
2
Bear me witness that I kept my soul ever quiet, ever at peace. The thoughts of a child on its mother’s breast, a child’s thoughts were all my soul knew.
2
Neither have I walked in great matters, nor in wonderful things above me. If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.
3
3
Let Israel trust in the Lord, henceforth and for ever.
3
Let Israel hope in the Lord, from henceforth now and for ever.
