1 A psalm of David, when his son Absalom pursued him. (2 Kings 17.) Hear, O Lord, my prayer: give ear to my supplication in thy truth: hear me in thy justice. |
1 Psalmus David, quando persequebatur eum Absalom filius ejus. (II Regum 17.) Domine, exaudi orationem meam; auribus percipe obsecrationem meam in veritate tua; exaudi me in tua justitia. |
1 (A psalm. Of David.) Listen, Lord, to my prayer; give my plea a hearing, as thou art ever faithful; listen, thou who lovest the right. |
2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight no man living shall be justified. |
2 Et non intres in judicium cum servo tuo, quia non justificabitur in conspectu tuo omnis vivens. |
2 Do not call thy servant to account; what man is there living that can stand guiltless in thy presence? |
3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul: he hath brought down my life to the earth. He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been dead of old: |
3 Quia persecutus est inimicus animam meam; humiliavit in terra vitam meam; collocavit me in obscuris, sicut mortuos sæculi. |
3 See how my enemies plot against my life, how they have abased me in the dust, set me down in dark places, like the long-forgotten dead! |
4 and my spirit is in anguish within me: my heart within me is troubled. |
4 Et anxiatus est super me spiritus meus; in me turbatum est cor meum. |
4 My spirits are crushed within me, my heart is cowed. |
5 I remembered the days of old, I meditated on all thy works: I meditated upon the works of thy hands. |
5 Memor fui dierum antiquorum; meditatus sum in omnibus operibus tuis: in factis manuum tuarum meditabar. |
5 And my mind goes back to past days; I think of all thou didst once, dwell on the proofs thou gavest of thy power. |
6 I stretched forth my hands to thee: my soul is as earth without water unto thee. |
6 Expandi manus meas ad te; anima mea sicut terra sine aqua tibi. |
6 To thee I spread out my hands in prayer, for thee my soul thirsts, like a land parched with drought. |
7 Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit hath fainted away. Turn not away thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. |
7 Velociter exaudi me, Domine; defecit spiritus meus. Non avertas faciem tuam a me, et similis ero descendentibus in lacum. |
7 Hasten, Lord, to answer my prayer; my spirit grows faint. Do not turn thy face away from me, and leave me like one sunk in the abyss. |
8 Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for in thee have I hoped. Make the way known to me, wherein I should walk: for I have lifted up my soul to thee. |
8 Auditam fac mihi mane misericordiam tuam, quia in te speravi. Notam fac mihi viam in qua ambulem, quia ad te levavi animam meam. |
8 Speedily let me win thy mercy, my hope is in thee; to thee I lift up my heart, shew me the path I must follow; |
9 Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, to thee have I fled: |
9 Eripe me de inimicis meis, Domine: ad te confugi. |
9 to thee I fly for refuge, deliver me, Lord, from my enemies. |
10 teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Thy good spirit shall lead me into the right land: |
10 Doce me facere voluntatem tuam, quia Deus meus es tu. Spiritus tuus bonus deducet me in terram rectam. |
10 Thou art my God, teach me to do thy will; let thy gracious spirit lead me, safe ground under my feet. |
11 for thy name’s sake, O Lord, thou wilt quicken me in thy justice. Thou wilt bring my soul out of trouble: |
11 Propter nomen tuum, Domine, vivificabis me: in æquitate tua, educes de tribulatione animam meam, |
11 For the honour of thy own name, Lord, grant me life; in thy mercy rescue me from my cruel affliction. |
12 and in thy mercy thou wilt destroy my enemies. And thou wilt cut off all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant. |
12 et in misericordia tua disperdes inimicos meos, et perdes omnes qui tribulant animam meam, quoniam ego servus tuus sum. |
12 Have pity on me, and scatter my enemies; thy servant I; make an end of my cruel persecutors. |
