Psalm 74
|
Douay-Rheims><Vulgate><Knox Bible
1
Unto the end, corrupt not, a psalm of a canticle for Asaph.
1
In finem, ne corrumpas. Psalmus cantici Asaph.
1
(To the choir-master. Melody: Do not destroy. A psalm. Of Asaph. A song.)
2
We will praise thee, O God: we will praise, and we will call upon thy name. We will relate thy wondrous works:
2
Confitebimur tibi, Deus, confitebimur, et invocabimus nomen tuum; narrabimus mirabilia tua.
2
We praise thee, O God, and, praising thee, call upon thy name, tell the story of thy wondrous deeds.
3
when I shall take a time, I will judge justices.
3
Cum accepero tempus, ego justitias judicabo.
3
When the time is ripe, I will judge strictly;
4
The earth is melted, and all that dwell therein: I have established the pillars thereof.
4
Liquefacta est terra et omnes qui habitant in ea: ego confirmavi columnas ejus.
4
earth rocks to its fall, and all that dwell on it; I alone support its fabric.
5
I said to the wicked: Do not act wickedly: and to the sinners: Lift not up the horn.
5
Dixi iniquis: Nolite inique agere: et delinquentibus: Nolite exaltare cornu:
5
Rebel no more, I cry to the rebels, Abate your pride, to the transgressors;
6
Lift not up your horn on high: speak not iniquity against God.
6
nolite extollere in altum cornu vestrum; nolite loqui adversus Deum iniquitatem.
6
would they match themselves against the most High, hurl defiance at God?
7
For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert hills:
7
Quia neque ab oriente, neque ab occidente, neque a desertis montibus:
7
Look east, look west, it will avail you nothing; no help comes from the desert, or the high hills;
8
for God is the judge. One he putteth down, and another he lifteth up:
8
quoniam Deus judex est. Hunc humiliat, et hunc exaltat:
8
it is God who rules all, humbling one man and exalting another.
9
for in the hand of the Lord there is a cup of strong wine full of mixture. And he hath poured it out from this to that: but the dregs thereof are not emptied: all the sinners of the earth shall drink.
9
quia calix in manu Domini vini meri, plenus misto. Et inclinavit ex hoc in hoc; verumtamen fæx ejus non est exinanita: bibent omnes peccatores terræ.
9
In the Lord’s hand foams a full cup of spiced wine; he holds it to men’s lips, that must empty it to the dregs, sinners everywhere must drink them.
10
But I will declare for ever: I will sing to the God of Jacob.
10
Ego autem annuntiabo in sæculum; cantabo Deo Jacob:
10
Evermore will I triumph, singing praises to the God of Jacob;
11
And I will break all the horns of sinners: but the horns of the just shall be exalted.
11
et omnia cornua peccatorum confringam, et exaltabuntur cornua justi.
11
mine to crush the pride of every sinner, and raise high the courage of the just.
