1 Huic David, quando terra ejus restituta est. Dominus regnavit: exsultet terra; lætentur insulæ multæ. |
1 For the same David, when his land was restored again to him. The Lord hath reigned, let the earth rejoice: let many islands be glad. |
1 The Lord reigns as king; let earth be glad of it, let the isles, the many isles, rejoice! |
2 Nubes et caligo in circuitu ejus; justitia et judicium correctio sedis ejus. |
2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: justice and judgment are the establishment of his throne. |
2 See where he sits, clouds and darkness about him, justice and right the pillars of his throne; |
3 Ignis ante ipsum præcedet, et inflammabit in circuitu inimicos ejus. |
3 A fire shall go before him, and shall burn his enemies round about. |
3 see where he comes, fire sweeping on before him, burning up his enemies all around. |
4 Illuxerunt fulgura ejus orbi terræ; vidit, et commota est terra. |
4 His lightnings have shone forth to the world: the earth saw and trembled. |
4 In the flash of his lightning, how shines the world revealed, how earth trembles at the sight! |
5 Montes sicut cera fluxerunt a facie Domini; a facie Domini omnis terra. |
5 The mountains melted like wax, at the presence of the Lord: at the presence of the Lord of all the earth. |
5 The hills melt like wax at the presence of the Lord; his presence, whom all the earth obeys. |
6 Annuntiaverunt cæli justitiam ejus, et viderunt omnes populi gloriam ejus. |
6 The heavens declared his justice: and all people saw his glory. |
6 The very heavens proclaim his faithfulness; no nation but has sight of his glory. |
7 Confundantur omnes qui adorant sculptilia, et qui gloriantur in simulacris suis. Adorate eum omnes angeli ejus. |
7 Let them be all confounded that adore graven things, and that glory in their idols. Adore him, all you his angels: |
7 Shame upon the men that worship carved images, and make their boast of false gods! him only all the powers of heaven, prostrate, adore. |
8 Audivit, et lætata est Sion, et exsultaverunt filiæ Judæ propter judicia tua, Domine. |
8 Sion heard, and was glad. And the daughters of Juda rejoiced, because of thy judgments, O Lord. |
8 Glad news for Sion, rejoicing for Juda’s townships, when thy judgements, Lord, are made known; |
9 Quoniam tu Dominus altissimus super omnem terram; nimis exaltatus es super omnes deos. |
9 For thou art the most high Lord over all the earth: thou art exalted exceedingly above all gods. |
9 art thou not sovereign Lord of earth, beyond measure exalted above all gods? |
10 Qui diligitis Dominum, odite malum: custodit Dominus animas sanctorum suorum; de manu peccatoris liberabit eos. |
10 You that love the Lord, hate evil: the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints, he will deliver them out of the hand of the sinner. |
10 They are the Lord’s friends, who were never friends to wrong; souls that are true to him he guards ever, rescues them from the power of evil-doers. |
11 Lux orta est justo, et rectis corde lætitia. |
11 Light is risen to the just, and joy to the right of heart. |
11 Dawn of hope for the innocent, dawn of gladness for honest hearts! |
12 Lætamini, justi, in Domino, et confitemini memoriæ sanctificationis ejus. |
12 Rejoice, ye just, in the Lord: and give praise to the remembrance of his holiness. |
12 Rejoice and triumph, just souls, in the Lord, of his holy name publish everywhere the renown. |
