Filiis Core. Psalmus cantici.
Fundamenta ejus in montibus sanctis;

(Of the sons of Core. A psalm. A song.)
His own building amidst the inviolate hills,

For the sons of Core, a psalm of a canticle.
The foundations thereof are in the holy mountains:

diligit Dominus portas Sion super omnia tabernacula Jacob.

dearer to the Lord are Sion walls than any other home in Israel.

The Lord loveth the gates of Sion above all the tabernacles of Jacob.

Gloriosa dicta sunt de te, civitas Dei!

How high a boast, city of God, is made for thee,

Glorious things are said of thee, O city of God.

Memor ero Rahab et Babylonis, scientium me; ecce alienigenæ, et Tyrus, et populus Æthiopum, hi fuerunt illic.

Mine it is to reckon the folk of Egypt, of Babylon, too, among my citizens! Philistines, Tyrians, Ethiopians, all must claim Sion as their birthplace;

I will be mindful of Rahab and of Babylon knowing me. Behold the foreigners, and Tyre, and the people of the Ethiopians, these were there.

Numquid Sion dicet: Homo et homo natus est in ea, et ipse fundavit eam Altissimus?

None was ever born, the proverb shall run, that did not take his birth from her; it was the most High, none other, that founded her.

Shall not Sion say: This man and that man is born in her? and the Highest himself hath founded her.

Dominus narrabit in scripturis populorum et principum, horum qui fuerunt in ea.

This was their birthplace, the Lord shall write over the muster-roll of the nations;

The Lord shall tell in his writings of peoples and of princes, of them that have been in her.

Sicut lætantium omnium habitatio est in te.

nor any but shall tell her praises with song and dance, each claiming from her its only origin.

The dwelling in thee is as it were of all rejoicing.
