Psalm 27

Vulgate><Douay-Rheims><Knox Bible
1
Psalmus ipsi David.
Ad te, Domine, clamabo; Deus meus, ne sileas a me: nequando taceas a me, et assimilabor descendentibus in lacum.
1
A psalm for David himself.
Unto thee will I cry, O Lord: O my God, be not thou silent to me: lest if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
1
(Of David.)
To thee, my Lord, my refuge, I cry aloud, do not leave my cry unanswered; listen to me, or I am no better than a dead man, sinking to the grave.
2
Exaudi, Domine, vocem deprecationis meæ dum oro ad te; dum extollo manus meas ad templum sanctum tuum.
2
Hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication, when I pray to thee; when I lift up my hands to thy holy temple.
2
Listen Lord, to my plea as I call upon thee, as I raise my hands in prayer towards thy holy temple.
3
Ne simul trahas me cum peccatoribus, et cum operantibus iniquitatem ne perdas me; qui loquuntur pacem cum proximo suo, mala autem in cordibus eorum.
3
Draw me not away together with the wicked; and with the workers of iniquity destroy me not: Who speak peace with their neighbour, but evils are in their hearts.
3
Do not summon me, with the wicked, before thy judgement-seat; with men who traffic in iniquity, men who talk of peace to their neighbours, while their hearts are full of malice.
4
Da illis secundum opera eorum, et secundum nequitiam adinventionum ipsorum. Secundum opera manuum eorum tribue illis; redde retributionem eorum ipsis.
4
Give them according to their works, and according to the wickedness of their inventions. According to the works of their hands give thou to them: render to them their reward.
4
For them, the reward of their own acts, their own evil ways; as they did, be it done to them, in their own coin repaid.
5
Quoniam non intellexerunt opera Domini, et in opera manuum ejus destrues illos, et non ædificabis eos.
5
Because they have not understood the works of the Lord, and the operations of his hands: thou shalt destroy them, and shalt not build them up.
5
Of the Lord’s acts, the Lord’s ways, they took no heed; ruin be theirs, ruin irreparable.
6
Benedictus Dominus, quoniam exaudivit vocem deprecationis meæ.
6
Blessed be the Lord, for he hath heard the voice of my supplication.
6
Blessed be the Lord’s name, my plea is heard;
7
Dominus adjutor meus et protector meus; in ipso speravit cor meum, et adjutus sum: et refloruit caro mea, et ex voluntate mea confitebor ei.
7
The Lord is my helper and my protector: in him hath my heart confided, and I have been helped. And my flesh hath flourished again, and with my will I will give praise to him.
7
the Lord is my strength and shield. Trusting in him, I found redress; there is triumph in my heart, on my lips the song of praise.
8
Dominus fortitudo plebis suæ, et protector salvationum christi sui est.
8
The Lord is the strength of his people, and the protector of the salvation of his anointed.
8
The Lord defends his own people, protects the king he has anointed.
9
Salvum fac populum tuum, Domine, et benedic hæreditati tuæ; et rege eos, et extolle illos usque in æternum.
9
Save, O Lord, thy people, and bless thy inheritance: and rule them and exalt them for ever.
9
Lord, save thy people, bless thy own chosen race; be their shepherd, evermore in thy arms upholding them.
