Psalm 5
|
Vulgate><Douay-Rheims><Knox Bible
1
In finem, pro ea quæ hæreditatem consequitur. Psalmus David.
1
Unto the end, for her that obtaineth the inheritance. A psalm for David.
1
(To the choir-master. On the flute. A psalm. Of David.)
2
Verba mea auribus percipe, Domine; intellige clamorem meum.
2
Give ear, O Lord, to my words, understand my cry.
2
Lord, listen to my plea, let me not sigh in vain;
3
Intende voci orationis meæ, rex meus et Deus meus.
3
Hearken to the voice of my prayer, O my King and my God.
3
pay heed to my cry of petition, my King, my God.
4
Quoniam ad te orabo, Domine: mane exaudies vocem meam.
4
For to thee will I pray: O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.
4
To thee, Lord, my prayer goes up, early to win thy audience;
5
Mane astabo tibi, et videbo quoniam non Deus volens iniquitatem tu es.
5
In the morning I will stand before thee, and will see: because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.
5
early in the morning I lay my petition before thee and await thy pleasure. No evil thing claims thy divine assent;
6
Neque habitabit juxta te malignus, neque permanebunt injusti ante oculos tuos.
6
Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.
6
with thee baseness cannot dwell; nor rebellion hold its ground at thy coming.
7
Odisti omnes qui operantur iniquitatem; perdes omnes qui loquuntur mendacium. Virum sanguinum et dolosum abominabitur Dominus.
7
Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie. The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor.
7
Thou hatest the wrongdoer, and wilt bring the liar to destruction; blood-thirsty and treacherous men the Lord holds in abhorrence.
8
Ego autem in multitudine misericordiæ tuæ introibo in domum tuam; adorabo ad templum sanctum tuum in timore tuo.
8
But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy, I will come into thy house; I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.
8
I, then, encompassed by thy mercy, will betake myself to thy house, and in reverence of thee bow down before thy sanctuary.
9
Domine, deduc me in justitia tua: propter inimicos meos dirige in conspectu tuo viam meam.
9
Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
9
Lord, do thou lead me with faithful care; clear show the path, while I walk beset by enemies.
10
Quoniam non est in ore eorum veritas; cor eorum vanum est.
10
For there is no truth in their mouth: their heart is vain.
10
In their speech no truth can be found; their hearts are all treachery,
11
Sepulchrum patens est guttur eorum; linguis suis dolose agebant: judica illos, Deus. Decidant a cogitationibus suis; secundum multitudinem impietatum eorum expelle eos, quoniam irritaverunt te, Domine.
11
Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues: judge them, O God. Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
11
their mouths gaping tombs; flattering is ever on their lips. Thy scourge, O God! Cheat them of their hopes, cast them out in all their wickedness; have they not defied thee?
12
Et lætentur omnes qui sperant in te; in æternum exsultabunt, et habitabis in eis. Et gloriabuntur in te omnes qui diligunt nomen tuum,
12
But let all them be glad that hope in thee: they shall rejoice for ever, and thou shalt dwell in them. And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee.
12
But for all those who trust in thee there is joy and everlasting triumph; welcome protection they have from thee, true lovers of thy name.
13
quoniam tu benedices justo. Domine, ut scuto bonæ voluntatis tuæ coronasti nos.
13
For thou wilt bless the just. O Lord, thou hast crowned us, as with a shield of thy good will.
13
Lord, thou givest thy benediction to the just; thou dost throw thy loving-kindness about us like a shield.
